JOIN OUR TEAM

We will make it as simple as possible to join and help you every step of the way. Follow the steps below, and please do not hesitate to reach out to any member if you have any questions!

1.  Print and fill out an application

The application helps us know a bit about you and determine if you are eligible to join the squad. Besides basic demographics, we look at the type of membership status you are interested in (EMT, EMR, Responder, Driver) , as well as look at your EMS background if applicable.  You do not need to be certified or have worked in EMS to join but you will need to be certified in CPR before you can go on calls.  We can help you find a CPR course if needed.
We request a physical from a physician to ensure you are healthy and safe to participate. We also need to you authorize a backround check. We cannot move forward on your application until this is done.

You can open and print the application here.

You can obtain access to submit the  background check here.

2.  Submit it at Borough Hall for notarization and placement in EMS mailbox:

Once the physical exam is complete and you have filled in the application, drop it off at the Rumson Borough Hall. They will notarize the application and put it in the EMS mailbox.  The background check will also be sent to Borough Hall.  Borough Hall will notify us they have your application and we will pick it up and process it.  It is a good idea to contact any member of the squad and let us know when you have dropped off the application so we can follow up!

3.  Attend an interview:
The head trustee will reach out to you to schedule a brief interview. The trustee that contacts you will serve as your primary means of contact at this point. Ask them any questions you may have!  If you are applying to become a cadet, we strongly recommend that you bring a parent or gardian to the interview. We will discuss the cadet program and cover the training and meetings that cadets expected to attend.
Interviews are typically scheduled on the second Monday of every month except for the summer months.

4.  Get voted into the squad:
Attend our Rumson EMS monthly meeting  (ususally the same night as the interview) and get voted on to join the Rumson EMS squad! Our meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at 7 pm. Once on the squad, you will be introduced to the membership and receive a brief orientation with the Captain.

5.  Get oriented:
Once on the squad, your formal and informal training begins. We will do everything we can to make sure you are comfortable and feel welcome. You will never be asked to go on a call or do something you are not comfortable doing.  We have your back every step of the way!
